Geophysics Group February 2010 At the end of last year I was given the first ‘real’ Geophysics Survey Target for the Group. This was a field between Norton and Baldock and due to its size will take some time to complete. We have been surveying over the winter – in spite of rain, frost – and yes we to complete did survey when it was snowing! Well done to all our hardy members who participated. Over the last three months a total of 13 members have participated in the surveys in teams of 4. We have located a number of anomalies that are potentially of archaeological interest and might bear further investigation at a later date. Our target was to locate a cursus that had been found when the A1 was cut – this we think we have done – but its length is as yet undetermined as it continues through the survey grids. There are also known round barrows in the field and we hope we have located the site of at least two of these. We were given permission to survey until the end of Mach and this we will do – we are all looking forward to the weather improving. We hope that we will be given the opportunity to continue our surveys in the coming months and find yet more interesting anomalies to discuss over our post survey pint!
